In honor of the anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Energy, here’s your reminder that Sam Brown would gut billions in federal funding for Nevada’s clean energy economy and eliminate thousands of jobs at the Nevada National Security Site
46 years ago, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) was established to help oversee and manage the nation’s energy production and our nuclear weapons stockpile. In just the last several years, Nevada has received more than $260 million in investment from the DOE, which has funded numerous energy projects, boosted our state’s multi-billion dollar energy sector, and supports the nearly 60,000 energy jobs in the state. Nevada is also home to DOE’s Nevada National Security Site, which employs thousands of Nevadans who are responsible for ensuring the integrity of our nation’s nuclear stockpile.
As we recognize this week’s anniversary, here’s your reminder that MAGA extremist Sam Brown wants to ax the Department of Energy altogether, along with many other federal agencies. If Sam Brown has his way, all of the funding and projects that have fueled this Nevada clean energy boom would be at risk, including:
- Putting thousands of Nevada jobs at risk,
- Ending further clean energy projects, causing energy prices to potentially skyrocket if planned projects are abandoned,
- Undermining our national security,
- Putting tens of billions of dollars in funding for Nevada’s solar energy, electric vehicle manufacturing and energy efficiency at stake.
Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Katharine Kurz:
“The Department of Energy has helped invest hundreds of millions of dollars in Nevada to create thousands of jobs building our clean energy future and protecting our national security. Instead of supporting these Nevada jobs and our state’s booming energy industry, Sam Brown would rather gut the Department of Energy altogether. Brown’s plans are beyond extreme, and make clear that he will put his MAGA agenda ahead of what’s best for Nevada.”
