Days after endorsing Donald Trump for president, Lombardo was spotted hanging out with one of the architects of the ‘Stop the Steal’ movement: Trump loyalist and former acting Director of U.S. National Intelligence, Richard Grenell.
In 2020, Grenell traveled to Nevada to join Adam Laxalt in spreading false election conspiracy theories about voter fraud and accusing election administrators of counting illegal ballots – all without any evidence to back up their claims. Just last year, Grenell even stated that the January 6th insurrection on the Capitol was terrible not because of the attack waged on America’s democratic values, but because it was the day “the media kicked President Trump off Twitter.”
It also doesn’t come as a surprise that Grenell and Lombardo were also joined by indicted fake elector and Nevada GOP Chairman Michael McDonald and Nevada RNC Committeewoman Sigal Chattah, who is representing one of the defendants in the fake electors trial. Lombardo already proved himself to be an ally to supporters of the Big Lie when he vetoed legislation that would have imposed criminal penalties on Nevadans who attempt fake elector schemes – now, he’s brazenly and publicly associating with them.
“Joe Lombardo continues to put his political ambition above democracy by embracing election conspiracy theorists whose actions led to a deadly insurrection,” said Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Stephanie Justice. “Nevadans deserve a governor who’s top priority isn’t currying favor with Trump and his lying cronies.”
