Veto Villain: NV Dems Launches Campaign Highlighting Lombardo’s Vetoes of Critical Legislation

Today, the Nevada State Democratic Party launched a digital ad campaign detailing Joe Lombardo’s historic veto record which prevented vital legislation – including bill lowering prescription drug costs for all Nevadans, expanding access to contraception, and making housing more affordable – from becoming law. This campaign is one piece in a larger effort by the state party to hold Lombardo accountable and keep this administration’s out of touch agenda top of mind for Nevadans.

The Veto Villain campaign will highlight how Lombardo’s first year in office prioritized special interests over the wellbeing of Nevadans by vetoing legislation supporting hardworking families despite the policies being popular among Nevadans. The campaign will be backed by an ad buy targeting tens of thousands of voters in swing districts that will determine the majorities in both chambers of Nevada’s legislature. Entering the 2024 election cycle, it is critical that Nevadans know that while Democrats are doing the work to improve their lives, Lombardo will only continue to stand in the way of their progress.

The campaign will highlight some of Lombardo’s most dangerous vetoes of legislation addressing critical issues including:

  • Election Reform and Transparency
    • SB60 would have required all constitutional officers’ inaugural committees (including Lombardo’s dark money slush fund) to disclose donations of $100 or more
    • SB133 would have made it a criminal offense to submit a slate of fake electors

  • Housing
    • AB298 would have capped rent increases on Nevada’s seniors and Nevadans with disabilities

  • Health Care
    • AB250 would have capped the price of prescription drugs being negotiated under the Inflation Reduction Act for all Nevadans instead of just those on Medicare
    • AB383 would have protected Nevadans’ access to contraception

  • Education
    • AB319 would have established a universal school breakfast and lunch program for Nevada’s students
  • Public Safety
    • SB171 would have prevented people convicted of hate crimes from purchasing firearms for a decade
    • AB355 would have raised the legal age to purchase certain semi-automatic rifles and shotguns to 21
    • AB354 would have criminalized bringing a gun within 100 feet of an election site
