Sam Brown is stumbling into November out of step with Nevadans and without the support of his own party
After a brutal primary battle marked by GOP infighting, MAGA extremist Sam Brown is stumbling into November deeply out of step with Nevadans and with fractured support from his own party.
Over the last year, Republicans have piled onto “Scam” Brown for his toxic support for reopening Yucca Mountain, his scam PAC that swindled grassroots Republican donors in order to pay off his own campaign debt, and his refusal to face Nevada voters.
Read about what Republicans really think about Sam Brown:
On Radio:
- Jim Marchant: “What has Sam Brown done? Nothing.”
- Jeff Gunter: “You want to bring in some nuclear waste into Nevada, into our backyard, all for a couple bucks. And it’s just terrible.”
- Jeff Gunter: “Well, we joke within the campaign that Sam Brown’s favorite sport right now is dodgeball.”
- Eddie Floyd: “Somebody who won’t debate, I don’t want to vote for them, Jim.”

- Jeff Gunter: “…Scam got caught scheming with Mitch [McConnell] to turn Nevada into a nuclear waste dumping ground”
On Social Media:
- Jeff Gunter: “Sam Brown thinks he’s entitled to the Nevada Senate seat. […] Just look at how Scam attacks the MAGA base while simping for the swamp. Nevada, don’t roll the dice on a RINO!”
- Jeff Gunter: “Just like I told you, Scam Brown is collapsing in Nevada. He’s dragging down the entire ticket And his Yucca stance is a deal-breaker for Nevada voters.”
- Tony Grady: “Over the weekend, I continued to talk to voters about the issues important to them. I also challenged Sam Brown to a debate… unsurprisingly, he decided to keep hiding in the basement!”
- Jeff Gunter: “Flip-flopping on major issues that impact the health & safety of Nevada families isn’t leadership. It’s selling out to the swamp Scam Brown once again shows us why he’s totally unqualified for the U.S. Senate”
- Tony Grady: “Sam Brown is another phony politician. In fact, he is the WAFFLER! You can’t trust Sam because he doesn’t take a position on anything.”
- George Harris: “This is what happens when a person turns into a politician. It’s a shame.”
- Sigal Chattah: “On the NV Caucus: ‘I wish there was more clarity to Republican voters’ says @CaptainSamBrown who didn’t lift a finger to provide clarity to voters over the last 10 months while @NVGOP has been in overdrive. He leads from behind.”

The New York Times: Nevada G.O.P Senate primary heats up as the long shot goes after the front-runner
- A television ad from Mr. Gunter that began airing on Wednesday called Mr. Brown “the newest creature to emerge from the swamp,” tying him to Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the minority leader, and deriding his primary opponent as “Scam Brown.”
The Hill: Nevada GOP Senate candidates clash over Yucca Mountain
- Nevada GOP Senate candidate Jeff Gunter hit primary rival Sam Brown on Tuesday over his previous comments showing openness to funding the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste facility.
- Gunter, the former ambassador to Iceland, attacked “Scam Brown” over the comments in a social media blitz and new campaign ad on Tuesday, with just weeks to go before the June 11 primary.
- “Scam Brown is scheming to make Nevada a dumping ground for toxic nuclear waste, just miles away from schools,” Gunter said. “President Trump & I oppose the swamp’s Yucca plan. Mitch McConnell and Scam support it.”
- “Scam Brown doubles down on dumping hazardous nuclear waste in Nevada,” Gunter said in a second post. “Toxic policy. Toxic message. Toxic campaign.”
Liberty Watch Magazine: Kentucky Senator Wants Nuclear Waste Shipped to Nevada
- Senator Mitch McConnell from Kentucky wants to ship nuclear waste to Nevada. McConnell, a longtime proponent of this idea, found his puppet in Sam Brown. Brown spent months on the campaign trail advocating to reopen Yucca Mountain. The question is, why?
- The answer is clear: McConnell funneled millions into Brown’s campaign to ensure a new flow of nuclear waste to Nevada. Unfortunately for Brown, a recent transplant from Texas, he was unaware of the history of Yucca Mountain. … sources are saying Brown is pulling all his television commercials due to lack of funding.
- Brown a 2018 transplant from Texas, moved to Nevada after he lost his first race for a Texas statehouse. Upon moving to Nevada Brown decided to run for U.S. Senate, after his unsuccessful bid for the U.S. Senate in 2022 against Adam Laxalt, Brown formed his Duty First Political Action Committee to “elect Republican candidates.”
- He raised hundreds of thousands of dollars only to funnel a majority of the money to pay off his previous campaign debts, not only from Nevada but also from his failed campaign in Texas. This led to Nevada voters tagging him with the moniker of “Scam Brown.”
- A Nevada voter from Elko emailed saying, “He has no grasp of the issues, or he just doesn’t want to answer the questions.” We have a saying up here in Elko: “He’s all hat and no cattle.”
Op-Eds
The Nevada Globe (Jeff Gunter): Why Should Nevada Voters Trust Captain Flip Flop?
- After Trump pollster John McLaughlin revealed that Brown’s support for Yucca Mountain would be politically disastrous, Brown suddenly changed his tune.
- He claimed to have consulted engineers about the site, but the truth is, he only spoke to his swamp advisors and establishment puppet masters.
- He frequently criticized Adam Laxalt for skirting debates, but now refuses to debate me. This reversal shows a lack of transparency and a willingness to avoid accountability.
- We need leaders who are not beholden to special interests and who will always put Nevada first.
Reno Gazette-Journal (Tony Grady): Now is the time for action
- “… Sam Brown continues catering to the political elite and raising money in California and New York, skipping debates and talking about opening up Yucca Mountain…”
Liberty Watch Magazine (Chuck Muth): U.S. Senate Debate Update
- The “official” excuse for Sam not participating is that “he’s walking with his supporters that weekend” – which, of course, doesn’t fly since the debate could easily have been held in the evening after door knocking was over.
- But privately, the real excuse that came back from Brown supporters boiled down to this (I’m paraphrasing): “Sam is a weak debater and can’t hold his own against Gunter and/or Grady.”
- But he’s ducked every debate invitation for this entire primary election season, deploying the political equivalent of Dean Smith’s “Four Corner Stall” when he coached the North Carolina Tar Heels’ basketball team in the 60s and 70s.
- It’s the height of hypocrisy for Sam to duck debates after he, himself, attacked Adam Laxalt for not debating HIM two years ago in the primary – and whined about it incessantly until Laxalt finally gave him a shot on Sam Shad’s TV show.
On the Debate Stage:
Reno Gazette-Journal: Nevada Republican debate for US Senate has recurring theme: ‘Don’t vote for Sam Brown’
- … candidates spent most of their time agreeing with each other and attacking the Republican Senate candidate who wasn’t in the room: Sam Brown.
- “Don’t vote for Sam Brown, I can tell you that right now — look at one of these candidates,” said retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Bill Conrad, gesturing to himself and the other six Republicans on stage.
AP News: Nevada Republican Senate primary candidates take aim at absent front-runner in debate
- Nearly every candidate called out Brown for his absence and described him as an establishment candidate not willing to face voters…
- Two years ago, Brown was a longshot Senate candidate who criticized Republican front-runner Adam Laxalt for agreeing only to a pre-recorded debate instead of a live, prime-time broadcast.
- “He must feel safe at 8 a.m., on a Monday morning, in a closed studio, where working-class Nevadans can’t challenge him,” Brown said of the former Nevada Attorney General, who enjoyed the backing of the Republican Party’s most influential figures, from former President Donald Trump to then-Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell.
KTVN: Debate Highlights
- ANCHOR: “Most of them agreed and expressed their disappointment in Nevada republican candidate Sam Brown’s decision to not participate in tonight’s debate”
The Nevada Independent: Nevada Senate GOP hopefuls attack Brown, pan Rosen land bill
- Republican U.S. Senate candidates gathered in Reno Thursday night to debate who among them would be the best challenger to take on Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-NV) in November — and took shots at the elephant not in the room, front-runner and retired Army Capt. Sam Brown.
- The chorus of criticism was reminiscent of issues raised by Brown himself in 2022, when he was the underdog upstart in the GOP Senate primary against the establishment-backed former Attorney General Adam Laxalt. Laxalt and Brown only had one pre-recorded debate, and Brown hammered Laxalt for avoiding debates and being “a career politician — cowardly hiding from voters.”
- Unsurprisingly, all seven candidates described themselves as personally against abortion. The issue has taken on massive political significance since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022…
Las Vegas Sun: Nevada GOP Senate candidates push for stronger stance on border in debate
- Speaking from the Atlantis Casino, the candidates who did attend each lambasted retired U.S. Army Capt. Sam Brown for skipping the debate.
- Each candidate said they would pursue pro-life policies and acknowledged the success Democrats had during the 2022 cycle campaigning on abortion access following the Supreme Court’s overturning of the landmark decision made in Roe v. Wade.
