Sam Brown and Drew Johnson to launch their sham Women for Sam Brown and Drew Johnson groups today in desperate attempt to cover up anti-abortion, anti-women agendas
Today, MAGA extremists Sam Brown and Drew Johnson are joining together to launch their sham “Women for Sam Brown” and “Women for Drew Johnson” coalitions in a desperate attempt to cover up their long-standing anti-abortion, anti-women agendas.
Sam Brown is deeply out of step with Nevada women – pushing an extreme agenda that includes saying childless women shouldn’t hold public office, pushing to ban abortion even in cases of rape or incest and opposing federal funding for Planned Parenthood. Meanwhile, Drew Johnson supports the Dobbs decision and would let politicians ban abortion in Nevada. Johnson is attempting to shy away from his connections to the far-right Freedom Caucus, whose members support a national abortion and IVF bans.
Sam Brown has a decade-long anti-aboriton record, and continued to push a MAGA agenda that would devastate Nevada women.
- After his failed run for office in Texas, Sam Brown publicly opposed one of the women he had run against because she was “not married with children to provide for or nurture and has refused to plant roots.”
- Brown repeatedly supported abortion bans with no exceptions for rape or incest, including an extreme abortion ban in Texas that was considered one of the “toughest restrictions in the country.”
- Brown served as local president of an extreme anti-abortion group that has backed a nationwide abortion ban and called Roe v. Wade a “moral atrocity” as recently as October 2023 and was caught trying to hide his position during this cycle.
- Brown declared that his anti-abortion stance was “non-negotiable” for him.
- Brown strongly supported overturning Roe v. Wade, which opened the door for more attacks on women’s reproductive rights. On his campaign website today, Brown says that opposing abortion rights would be his litmus test for confirming judges if he was elected to the Senate.
- Currently, Brown’s campaign website directs women to anti-abortion crisis pregnancy centers. Brown lists “resources for women” on his website that only includes pushing women to extreme crisis pregnancy centers that “often oppose abortion across the board, do not refer women for the procedure and sometimes promote debunked theories that the procedure can contribute to future infertility or breast cancer.”
- Brown’s campaign has attacked Planned Parenthood and has made it clear he would be a vote against federal funding for the organization, which provides affordable health care, including birth control and cancer screenings, to thousands of women across Nevada.
Drew Johnson’s anti-abortion, anti-women views and connections to the Freedom Caucus should give serious pause to Nevadans who wish to protect women and reproductive rightsF:
- Drew Johnson committed to joining the far-right Freedom Caucus. The Freedom Caucus supports the Life at Conception Act which would ban abortion and IVF nationwide. Notable caucus members have said they’ll file an amendment that would ban funding for the use of IVF for servicemembers and their families because it is “morally wrong.”
- While Johnson has refused to answer whether or not he will support Nevada’s ballot initiative to protect reproductive freedom, he supports the Dobbs decision and said, “Abortion policy is appropriately in the hands of the states,” which has led to dangerous abortion bans across the country.
- When asked if he would join the Freedom Caucus, Johnson said, “I have the endorsement of several members of the Freedom Caucus already. I believe that the Freedom Caucus shares the same values that I do, and I will be happy to do it.” According to his website, Drew Johnson accepted the endorsements of Reps. Ralph Norman and Diana Harshbarger, two members of the far-right Freedom Caucus.
- Drew Johnson minimized sexual assault by claiming pornography and strip clubs as a solution to sexual assault and rape.
Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Katharine Kurz
“MAGA extremists like Sam Brown and Drew Johnson will say or do anything to get elected – even launch a desperate campaign aimed at appealing to women while running on an anti-abortion, anti-women agenda that is deeply out of step with our state. Brown and Johnson have shown time and time again they would not protect our reproductive freedom against a national abortion ban or any other radical attacks.”
