Toxic policy positions, ethics scandals, & MAGA loyalty define Sam Brown’s second doomed Senate campaign
As Sam Brown takes the stage at the Republican National Convention later today, it’s putting a spotlight on how deeply out of step the GOP candidate is with hardworking Nevadans. Catch up on Brown’s toxic policy stances, numerous ethics scandals, and unwavering loyalty to MAGA politics below:
Brown’s toxic policies are deeply out of step with hardworking Nevadans.
- Brown pushed to restrict abortion rights, including strongly supporting efforts to overturn Roe v. Wade, backing extreme abortion bans without exceptions for rape or incest, and serving as the local president of an extreme anti-abortion group that supports a national abortion ban.
- Brown called to abolish the Department of Education, which would put critical funding for Pell Grants, community colleges, career and technical education, and other services for Nevada students on the chopping block.
- Brown praised plans to force massive cuts to hard-earned benefits for seniors by enacting an extreme plan that would phase out Social Security and Medicare in five years.
- Brown supported efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act – jeopardizing health coverage for hundreds of thousands of Nevadans, eliminating protections for pre-existing conditions, and forcing higher premiums and prescription drug costs.
- Brown supported reviving Yucca Mountain and making Nevada a dumping ground for the nation’s nuclear waste, even calling it an “incredible opportunity” as he put himself at odds with scientific, business, and political leaders from across Nevada.
Brown has been plagued by a series of ethics scandals.
- Brown set up a scam PAC that swindled grassroots Republican donors to pay off his own campaign debts – “a move one campaign finance expert likened to using the PAC as a ‘slush fund.”
- Brown failed to disclose his role as executive board chairman for a dark money group whose national chapter has advocated for some of the most stringent anti-abortion laws in the country.
- Brown also failed to disclose his association with a Texas company he managed on his personal financial disclosure forms.
Brown will always put pleasing Trump and far-right MAGA politicians over doing what’s right for Nevada.
- Brown has repeatedly downplayed the violence at the Capitol on January 6 that was incited by the very same conspiracy theories he has spread – describing it as a “complex” mixture of “patriotic expression of [insurrectionists’] love of country” and their “concerns.”
- When Brown was asked about election fraud and his willingness to accept the results of his own race in 2024, “he did not directly answer any of the questions.”
Nevada State Democratic Party Spokesperson Katharine Kurz
“MAGA Sam Brown has shown time and time again that he is more interested in national politics and pleasing the far-right wing of his party over doing what’s right for Nevadans. No matter what Brown says in his Trump-approved convention speech, Nevada voters back home are learning the facts about his extreme and deeply unpopular record.”
