GROUNDHOG DAY: Sam Brown Keeps Reliving the Same Failed Political Campaign Over and Over

Brown doesn’t let his losing track record keep him from launching multiple campaign bids in multiple states

Much like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, Sam Brown is reliving the same failed political campaign over and over again. But unlike the classic film, there is no happy ending in sight, just a losing track record and a MAGA-fueled extremist agenda.

  • Brown launched his first campaign for Texas State House in 2014. There he advocated for an extreme abortion ban without exceptions for rape or incest, saying “on issues of life, that is a non-negotiable for me.” Brown lost in the primary, coming in a distant third.
  • After saying it would “literally take an act of God” to take him out of Texas, Brown moved to Nevada and promptly started seeking higher office, first exploring a State Assembly run in 2020 that he failed to launch. He ultimately ran for United States Senate in 2022 – losing again in the primary to Adam Laxalt by 22 points.
  • Fresh off another primary loss, Brown launched his third doomed political campaign in 2023 after being personally recruited by Mitch McConnell, despite widespread skepticism from in-state Republicans who had “questions about his ability to seriously challenge Rosen after having yet to win a primary in his two runs for office.”

It’s no wonder Brown’s GOP opponents have dubbed him a “failed career politician” who Nevada voters have “already proven that they don’t want […] in the Senate.”
